INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY:
Geography is a vast concept according to human brains. Geography is all about description of Earth. Geography is derived from the two Greek words “Geo-earth” and “Graphy-description“. In 276-194 BC a person who lived in “Cyrene” named” Eratosthenes” called as the father of geography.
Geography divided into two parts The first one is PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY, and the second one is HUMAN GEOGRAPHY.
PHYSICAL Geography is the study of the shape of the Earth’s surface and how it comes about, water on the surface, It is also the study about the climate, soils and how the oceans and seas affects each other .It is also the result of last 2.6 million years study of Earth.
WHAT ARE THE 5 TYPES OF GEOGRAPHY:
The 5 types of Geography are
- LOCATION
- PLACE
- HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION
- MOVEMENT
- REGION
LOCATION:
Geographic location is derived as a position on the earth. Your absolute geographic location is defined by two coordinator (LONGITUDE)(LATITUDE)
Location divided into two types:
Absolute location
Relative location
PLACE:
Place are dynamic and subject to constant. A building, a play ground, a college any kind of geographic state is come under PLACE.
HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION:
The meeting place of Human geography and Physical geography is called as human environment interaction. In some cases both human and physical Geography acted positively like: Natural rain fall, snow fall, forests etc. But in some cases are very negative for both like: GLOBAL WARMING, increase of GREEN HOUSE effect gas, cyclone, extreme thunder storm, tornado etc.
REGIONS:
Regions divided the world into manageable units for Geographic study. there are many regions. Generally there are 7 Region out there and they are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.
If you are going out home for something ,sometimes you traveled far from the home or going one place to another is called as movement.
What are the branches of physical geography:
- GEOMORPHOLOGY: the shape of the earth’s and study of it: The word Geo-morphology means a lot that it shows in a single word. If we break this word into 3 different parts than we can find that ‘Geo’ means ‘earth’,’Morphe’ means-‘form’ and ‘logy’ means ‘study’. Together its create sense that is study about the different forms of the earth. Sometimes Geo-morphology also included other planets study.
- HYDROLOGY: water on the earth
- GLACIOLOGY: ice sheets and glaciers on the earth
- BIOGEOGRAPHY: studies about different kind of species
- CLIMATOLOGY: studies about always changeable climate
- PEDOLOGY: different soils
- PALAEOGEOGRAPHY :how the continent moved
- COASTAL GEOGRAPHY :how the ocean and land do affect one another
- OCEANOLOGY :the oceans and seas
- QUATERNARY SCIENCE: the geography of the last 2.6 million years
- LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY: how landscape affects things
- GEOMATICS: gathering ,storing and processing geographic information
